Self-confessed Life Drawing and portrait junkie, Paul’s work invariably revolves around capturing the human face and figure. He describes his favourite thing in art as “that moment when you get close to a work, and realise you’ve been deceived; the skill of the artist having given you very little to create the image you saw from 30 feet away” He says reducing an image to its barest form but still with the aim of giving the viewer a full and rich experience is his favourite challenge. Often favouring single light source poses or deep chiaroscuro, capturing nuances in the balance between light and dark are the centre of Paul’s attention. Originally from East London, via school-years in Margate, Paul now lives in Ridgmont and runs three life-drawing and portrait groups locally, including ours at Woburn Mosaic.
