Jill Goodyear - BA Hons Fashion and Textile Design,
Painter and Printmaker

The Visual Arts have always had a big influence in the way that Jill perceives the world around her. She hopes that this is reflected in the style that she has developed gradually as a painter, printmaker and mixed media artist.

A strong sense of colour and form are evidence of Jill's initial training as a textile designer, and she now works mostly with paint, ink, collage and print to produce bright, fresh images on canvas and paper. Drawing is central to all her work, and she especially values the opportunity to participate in life drawing sessions as well as sketching outdoors.

Jill's inspiration is drawn from her memory of landscape, the sea and walking in the woods where she lives. Jill likes to create works both formal and abstract, using a variety of subject matter that ranges from landscape to seascape, figurative and abstract. She supports her ideas by the use of drawings and photographs which are used as a visual reminder while the work evolves organically, through the process of laying down paint and texture onto whichever support she chooses to use at the time. Jill is particularly interested in the patterns and textures that nature creates over time, either by the build-up of lichen on wood and stone, or the erosion by weather on rocks and land.

Jill has taken part in Open Studios for a number of years and is currently a member of the Visual Images Group in Bucks., and the Artists' Network Bedfordshire. Jill has exhibited her work widely with each of the above organisations and at the Norton Way Gallery in Letchworth, the Bedford Street Gallery in Woburn and Woburn Abbey.
